Where freedom finds its voice.
A free, happy, prosperous and peaceful country where individual liberty, individual rights, free market, rule of law and peace are secured by the collective effort of informed citizens.
Mission & Vision
The movement is built on the conviction that political, social and economic challenges must be solved together — not in isolation — because they operate as a cycle where each dimension directly affects the others.
Youth-led, evidence-based and rooted in liberal values, the Liberal Youth Movement aims to grow a nationwide network that turns political literacy into real, lasting reform.
Our Mission
A free, happy, prosperous and peaceful country where the values of individual liberty, individual rights, limited government, free market, free choices, rule of law and peace are secured by the collective effort of informed citizens.
Our Vision
Enhance human flourishing and prosperity by strengthening a youth-led network that promotes liberal values and increases political literacy through both bottom-to-top and top-to-bottom approaches.
Eight clear objectives
Each objective reinforces the others — youth empowerment, inclusive politics, policy research, pressure advocacy and national collaboration working as one interconnected system.
Empower youth to be the leaders of the nation in transforming Sri Lanka to a better version.
Promote liberal political values in Sri Lanka and build lasting public understanding of those values.
Enhance political literacy across all layers of Sri Lankan society, starting from the grassroots level.
Enhance inclusive politics in Sri Lanka so that every community and background is represented.
Establish an academic think tank of experts and specialists to research and formulate policy reforms addressing corrupt and outdated regulations and practices that violate liberal values, rights, free choices, rule of law and democratic institutions.
Grow into a strong pressure group that can influence the legislature and the executive to implement liberal reform proposals as laws of the country.
Operate as a bridge connecting youth from all regions of the country while supporting communication, leadership, social and technical skill development and facilitating access to opportunities.
Collaborate and affiliate with similar organisations, institutes, universities and the private and corporate sector — local and foreign — to achieve the movement's primary objectives.
Think tank. Pressure group. Inclusive movement.
The movement does not rely on top-down influence alone. It builds broad, participatory support for liberal transformation across every layer of Sri Lankan society.
Proof through action, not words
In its first months, the movement launched a continuous educational programme on liberal political, economic and social values — one of the clearest examples of its commitment to grassroots political literacy.
Whenever liberal values and fundamental rights have been threatened, the movement has responded within the legal framework. The Fundamental Rights Petition challenging emergency regulations, filed by the co-conveners, demonstrates this commitment in action.
More than 500 young people from across the country joined voluntarily in the first three months — from Jaffna to Matara, Colombo to Batticaloa — representing many professions, educational backgrounds and career stages.
Nationwide youth network
Members span almost all regions and represent different professions — from postgraduates to fresh school leavers — all contributing voluntarily to realise the movement's goals.
Designed for inclusion
The movement rejects the idea that liberal transformation can be achieved by only one layer of society. All programmes are designed to reach every group in a comprehensible way.
Research-backed reform
High-quality research sits at the centre of everything. The movement is committed to policy proposals that address the root causes of crises — not only their surface symptoms.
The crisis is political. The solution must be too.
Even though the current crisis appeared in economic form, it resulted from the continuous betrayal of liberal values, individual rights, rule of law and democratic institutions over many years.
Economic reforms cannot succeed without stable political institutions. Social stability cannot be sustained without addressing root causes. Political, social and economic issues must be solved together.
The transformation Sri Lanka needs cannot be achieved only by influencing legislators at the top. The idea must be supported by the majority — across every social layer. That is precisely what the movement is working towards every day.
